The Furniture Gallery links above will take you to our new website - Carpinteros. Here's why. We have realized that the name "Taos Furniture" has become a more broadly used, commercial term to describe any "Southwest Style furniture" while our furniture continues to have a uniqueness we wish to protect. In keeping with the quality of our handcrafted products, Taos Furniture has changed its name to Carpinteros.

We are preserving classic motifs and woodworking techniques that stretch back to 1600, and at the same time, we're creating furniture for contemporary customers who value sophisticated design, craftsmanship and heirloom quality. How we achieve all this sets Carpinteros apart.

Famed Gucci designer, Tom Ford told Santa Fean magazine....

"I just ordered a lot of furniture from Taos Furniture (for the Galisteo ranch), because they're so iconic.  I prefer their old classic designs."

This is True Heirloom Furniture —
Built One Piece at a Time

At our workshop in beautiful Santa Fe, masterful artisans are dedicated to carrying on the centuries-old tradition of individually crafting each piece of furniture. Heirloom quality is the result of unusual care and attention to detail. For example, all surfaces are hand-planned to bring out the life of the wood. It is very rare for a furniture company to exclusively hand-plane each piece. Hand-planing is a lost art that gives wood a luster that can never be achieved with sandpaper, creating a surface unique to any other method of working with wood. Additionally, each component is hand-fitted using mortise and tenon joinery and square pegs. This is one of the oldest forms of joining wood together, and it remains the pinnacle of quality in fine woodworking. Unlike most contemporary furniture that is glued and doweled by machines, TAOS FURNTURE ensures the highest quality of craftsmanship through this superior and painstaking method.

Aesthetically, the quintessential look of TAOS FURNITURE is also achieved through decorative details and textures which are hand carved, chipped, and adzed into the surface. Finally, even our stains and finishes are formulated from age-old recipes and hand~ applied with special waxes to bring forth the mellow, hand-rubbed glow that is indicative of true hand-made furniture.

We do not mass-produce furniture. Each piece is cared for by one master craftsman each step of the way to completion, the end result being a supremely functional, durable work of art. TAOS FURNITURE is built to be passed on through many generations of, your family. The quality of these pieces can be experienced at our showroom in the historic, downtown plaza district of Santa Fe.
