Why We Care

Taos Furniture has been making custom Southwest furniture for over 30 years. Our commitment to the northern New Mexican style of carpentry is unmatched. We are woodworkers of the tradition begun in the early 1600's by colonists from Mexico City. Moving to Santa Fe and surrounding areas, their Spanish Colonial woodworking style changed to accommodate the rugged terrain of northern New Mexico. Over time, the Spanish Territorial carpintero tradition was born. Blending Mission Style, Spanish Colonial, and Territorial Style, this tradition is still practiced by our woodshop of generational carpenters.

Our wood is locally harvested from the great Four Corners area of the United States. We hire local vendors and contractors to harvest. These small harvesting operations know how to care for the environment and sustainably harvest the trees for our furniture. We put the profit back into these communities. The land and people of northern New Mexico are as important to us as the bottom line. Likewise, we are committed to making the highest quality furniture. We don't warehouse pieces - each product is hand-milled and handmade with Ponderosa pine by one woodworker to completion. We don't start building until we hear from you. Since none of our pieces are mass- produced and the components are made one at a time, all of our pieces can be custom-sized to suit your particular needs. Parts of different designs can be created to create unique Southwest furniture for you. We call this process "creative collaboration." We can do this in our showroom or over the phone with you.
